Bio/CV: 

Anna Sánchez is a Chicana writer, advocate, and the founder of MAMS, an organization dedicated to uplifting the stories and successes of womxn. Originally from the Kumeyaay/Tijuana, Mexico, and San Diego regions, Anna is a mother of five and a published poet whose work highlights the borderlands, BIPOC communities, and womxn's experiences. She is currently working on a book of poetry and photographs that reflects her personal story and various life experiences.

Anna is pursuing a degree in Chicanx/Latinx Studies with minors in Education and Creative Writing at UC Berkeley. She enjoys research and plans to further explore motherhood, academia, and how institutions can better serve non-traditional students during college and beyond. Her future plans include continuing her advocacy for marginalized communities, expanding her creative projects, and eventually becoming a professor and mentor to guide and inspire students and youth.

Research interests: 

Anna Sanchez has developed a deep passion for research during her time at UC Berkeley, particularly through her involvement with the Miller Scholars Program. She has contributed to various research projects aligned with her values. Currently, she is part of the Archive of Latine Feelings through the Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program (URAP) and the Adelante Research Project, where the team is analyzing and documenting social movements for education equity in the Bay Area. Additionally, Anna is collaborating on a community-based project documenting farmworkers' experiences and expertise on climate change issues. As a senior at UC Berkeley, Anna’s honors thesis focuses on the intersections of motherhood and higher education, examining the unique challenges faced by Chicanx/Latinx mothers in academia. Similarly, her Miller Scholars Research Project is dedicated to better serving this group of students (mother scholars) by creating spaces, events, and support networks to aid them in their academic journeys.
