Miller Scholars Reactivate the Latinx Sociological Association at UC Berkeley

September 26, 2024

Miller Scholars Julio Cedillo, Esme Nuno Mora, and Briana Perez have reactivated the Latinx Sociological Association (LSA) at UC Berkeley. Having been inactive for years, the Miller Scholars alongside other students felt the necessity to reactivate the department-sponsored association to elevate Latinx voices in the Department of Sociology.

LSA seeks to engage both current and prospective students with UC Berkeley communities and each other to elevate academic and professional excellence within the social sciences, generating and advancing sociological knowledge and fostering its effective application for the benefit of the Latinx community. The association seeks to prepare Latinx sociology majors for the workforce as well as for grad school by offering workshops related to professional development; including alumni panels, graduate panels, and research workshops. The Miller Scholars are strong advocates for first-generation, low-income, and system-impacted transfer students, allowing their voices to be heard within the association and in the department overall.
